This was a rather impromptu race as a friend of a friend happened to offer a lift to it, and I didn’t really even know about it beforehand. The race took place very close to Durham though, in Sedgefield. It was a 6.5 mile cross country race in tough terrain, including hills, mud, grass, fields, trails and even jumping over some gates! I took it more as a nice tempo run rather than a serious race, and that seemed to be the attitude of most of the runners. It was a lovely sunny day and the route was very scenic, so a good day out! The goodie back wasn’t bad either: some Lucozade Orange, a Mars bar, raisins, and a thermos cup.

I should’ve started a bit further to the front, as I spent the first 5k overtaking people on the narrow paths. I used most of my energy on the overtaking and the second 5k was rather slower, I ran in a group with two other guys trying to find our way through the woods — we very nearly got lost at one point! The atmosphere was very nice and the area is very scenic, so I would recommend this as an enjoyable if rather challening XC race.

Official results here (with a rather original misspelling of my name).

Next up, the Great North Run! I’m hoping for some more donations to the charity which enabled me to participate in this race. Every little helps and it all goes straigth to charity, so please consider donating!
