Served in room temperature.
Appearance: Pitch black. Pours a big creamy & foamy head with a brown tint. 4.5/5
Aroma: Espresso, roasted malt, dark chocolate, a little bit of yeast and alcohol. Some spice to it too. Very tempting! 4.5/5
Taste: Strong roasted malt and chocolate. Coffee is a little bit on the background, but comes through as bitterness in the aftertaste. This goes down dangerously well. Very robust flavours, but perhaps not as heavy on the coffee as I expected. 4.5/5
Mouthfeel: Velvet! Absolute delight. Thick and full bodied, yet so smooth. 5/5
Overall: Excellent coffee stout. It’s in fact an imperial oatmeal coffee stout, with an intricate mixture of malts, and I have to say that they’ve succeeded in creating a truly smooth and delicious beer. The oatmeal helps with the mouthfeel especially. Perhaps it could have a tiny bit more coffee flavour and depth through that, but there isn’t really much to improve on here. I’d love to try the special versions that they’ve done of this beer (there is at least a bourbon cask aged and a speyside whisky aged version). 4.5/5
