Running

I’ve been running for general fitness ever since my high school years, but that was mostly just a few days per week over the summer, and I never recorded times or distances. While I was in the UK I started running a bit more regularly, maybe three days per week, and partly over the winter as well. But it was all just easy general running, routes of 10k or less. It all changed when I got my first Garmin, a GPS-enabled sports watch, which made it possible to record times and distances accurately. (I’ve reviewed my first Garmin, the 405CX, as well as the one I used for a few years after that, 310XT; I now use a Garmin Forerunner 910XT.) This was in early 2010. A few months later I signed up for my first ever race and others soon followed, I quickly got addicted to “serious” running and the adrenaline rush brought on by racing. Since then I’ve ran over 10,000km (~6200 miles), and counting…

Even before I got into running more seriously, I was a keen hill walker. Since then I’ve combined my two interests and have done a number of fell runs, i.e. running up and around mountains. One of these trips involved running the Mamores in Scotland — a series of ten amazing peaks.
